The Suncoast Apprenticeship Academy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing the skilled labor shortage and creating pathways into rewarding construction careers throughout Manatee and Sarasota counties. An initiative of the Suncoast Builders Association, the Academy is being developed as a workforce training and education center where students will gain hands-on experience, industry-recognized certifications, mentorship, and connections to career opportunities.
Planned training will encompass 10 essential trades: electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, solar installation, building construction technology, brick masonry, landscaping, painting, and weatherization. Guided by the needs of local builders and contractors, the Academy will prepare students for success while promoting safe, ethical, sustainable, and resilient building practices. Through this work, the Academy aims to expand access to skilled trades education, strengthen our regional economy, and develop the professionals our communities need for the future.
The Suncoast Apprenticeship Academy has acquired the former Perkins restaurant property at 5921 Fruitville Road in Sarasota, taking a significant step toward bringing its vision to life. The building will be transformed into a dedicated center for skilled trades education, creating space for hands-on training, classroom learning, and collaboration with industry professionals. Conveniently located near Interstate 75, the future campus will serve students and employers throughout Manatee and Sarasota counties. This investment lays the foundation for a place where individuals can develop practical skills, pursue meaningful careers, and help meet our region’s growing need for qualified construction professionals.
